Privacy Policy
Overview
Lonely PDF is a personal PDF reading app for iPhone. We designed it so your PDF files remain on your device by default. This policy explains what stays on device, what may leave the device when you use AI features, and how to delete your data.
Data we store on your device
- PDF files you import or create (app sandbox)
- Document metadata (title, page count, last opened, thumbnails)
- Text chunks extracted or OCR’d for search and chat
- Chat history and related session data
You can delete this data in the app under Settings → Clear local library & chats.
Data sent over the network
When you use AI features (chat or summarize), Lonely PDF sends retrieved text snippets, your question, and recent chat turns needed for context to the configured AI proxy server. We do not upload your original PDF files for AI features.
The proxy forwards those text snippets to a large language model provider (for example OpenAI) to generate a reply. Responses are streamed back to the app and stored locally in your chat history. The AI server URL is configurable in Settings for development and deployment.
Photos, camera, and local tools
Photos-to-PDF, document scanning, merge, split, compress, markup, and OCR run on your device. Camera and photo library access are used only when you choose those features; images are not uploaded for those tools.
Analytics and tracking
Lonely PDF v1 does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
Accounts
Lonely PDF v1 does not require an account. We do not operate a user identity system for the app.
Children’s privacy
Lonely PDF is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the app if you are under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date on this page and in App Store metadata when required.
